Should the “Miss Universe” beauty pageant ban makeup, hair dye and beast implants?

The culture of beauty pageants has always been based on the Barbie mentality. The 18 to 25 year old contestants are required to wear expensive evening gowns and spend money on makeup, makeup artists, manicures, pedicures, skin treatments and expensive hair care. Many of the girls change their hair color and almost all of them wear fake eyelashes. A few of the girls are beautiful without makeup but many beauty pageant girls are average looking at best and must have makeup to look good. If hair coloring and breast implants where banned from the Miss Universe pageant and no makeup was allowed during the swimsuit segment the world could what the girls really look like. The girls could wear makeup during the evening gown segment only. What do you think? Does the world deserve to see the girls naturally so we can accurately judge who the most beautiful girl really is? Should the “Miss Universe” beauty pageant ban makeup, hair dye and beast implants?

I think implants shouldn't be allowed, but as far as makeup and hair dye goes, I'm not overly concerned. Some makeup is necessary for a pageant... if someone were to go onstage with no makeup at all, the stage lights would wash her out horribly, and she would end up looking far less pretty than she really is. People dye their hair all the time, and some for good reason... I'm 20 years old, I have black hair, and since I was in my early teens my hair has been slowly going white. I'd be laughed off the stage if I showed up with white hair at this age. I think some natural makeup is fine and necessary, but I would like to see the competition move away from plastic surgery and fakeness. Also, while many people laugh at this idea, Miss Universe is not only about beauty. I'm not going to lie and say that it isn't mostly about beauty-- it is-- but they wouldn't do an interview question if it were all about beauty. (And that question really does matter, it isn't just fluff... think Miss Teen USA '07 and one of the answers we heard there, or some of the crazy answers we've gotten at Universe when some contestants chose to go without a translator. You can't say those answers didn't hurt most of them.) Personality and confidence are very important as well. Hope this helps!

My daughter is a teen, and recently for the 2nd time we competed in Miss Tennessee Teen Pageant. The first time we went, I thought they wanted the teens to be natural, and my daughter and I did just that. But once there, we were out of place, because they are just as made up as the Miss Universe pageant. It was ridiculous. This year, well, she was just as made up. I hated to give in, but it is a dream of hers. She is naturally very beautiful, and possibly one of the most beautiful there, but you are correct, a majority of the girls there, without there makeup, were very average looking. I will say the girl that one was naturally very pretty, I was happy that she won. Because she did put on alot of make-up, but I seen her without, and she looked better without the glitz.
If a female wants to use all or any means to get noticed (within reason) why should she not ber able to do so... That being said, how many shows, and events have you seen and been to, where a woman gets a COMPLETE make over, and the final result (s) is that she looks completely different, and why so.... All due to make up and proper usage of same..


That's the trouble with ';modern'; women today.. A good percentage of them don';t wear make up - don't want to, and therefore don't know HOW TO..


And the same holds true for apparel..


Many get up out of bed, wash their face, run a comb thru their ';mane';. put on a pair of ';ratty'; jeans and a tee shirt, and flip flops, and head out the door with the though in mind ';Damned I look good';...!!!


NO !!!!! You look awful... But do they care..? Nine times out of ten, their thoughts and attitude is ';What more do you want from me, I'm dressed and I'm here..';


Whatever happened to women looking and dressing like women..

make up:


eye liner is always a good way to make you look more awake, and the BEST way if your super tired is to use white eyeliner on your bottom lid. only use it on your top lid if you know how or else itll totally look weird!


when you have lipstick on, add a spot on clear lip gloss on the centers of your top and bottom lips, itll make them look bigger. this also works with lip gloss, you just need to add a glop (not to big) on the centers.


when applying blush, smile and only use it on the apples of your cheeks (the part that sticks out while smiling) across the bridge of your nose, and in a line from your apples of your cheeks up to your temples.


use mascara only on your top lashes for a more dramatic look!


red lipstick is always awesome (but looks best if your pale) and if you do wear red lipstick you have to go all the way with bombshell red....NOT wimpy red! and only wear mascara with it...anything else will make you look to overdone.


skin:


ALWAYS USE LOTION! tanning lotion is the best and make sure it has SPF in it so you'll be safe w/o even thinking about it and your skin will stay pretty longer! also lotion makes skin look tanner and less dead.


If you get a big zit try using a dab of neosporin on it before bed. if you tend to roll a lot try putting a band-aid over it then remove it and wash your face off in the morning!


once or twice a week i put tons of lotion on my hands and feet (a thick enough layer that you can see it) then put socks over both my feet and hands then when i wake up i take them off and for 2-3 days my hands smell super good like the lotion did and they're TOTALLY soft!


Every night before i go to sleep i always put petrolium jelly on my eyelashes, eye brows and lips. it makes my lips super soft in the morning and my eyelashes look thicker and it makes your eyebrows and eyelashes stronger and healthier...plus the skin around your lips and eyes will be soft since it get smeared in your sleep!


shaving works WAY better if you use conditioner, my friend told me this and its awesome! but before u shave, let it sit on your skin for 2 minutes to softer it up and make your shave last longer (not by much but w.e.)....even let it sit on your skin if your still using shaving creme!





hair:


before you go to sleep massage your scalp for 5-10 minutes....or however long you have! itll get the blood flowing more while you sleep and make your hair look healthier by morning!


dont wash your hair every day, go for at most ever other day. if you cant stand doing that though try just conditioning on your days between!


NEVER PUT YOUR HAIR IN A PONYTAIL WHILE ITS WET! it totally damages your scalp and roots! and try to keep putting your hair into a ponytail to a minimum of about 2-3 days a week!

- Well dear , doing alot of running with get your thighs stronger . I've been doing alot of running recently and my thighs are pretty hard now . As for loosing your gut and getting abs , I would recommend sit ups , and lots of them .

What color are your eyes? If you have brown eyes, blue/green/purple eyeshadow will make them pop. If your eyes are any other color, use eyeliner on your bottom lid, and in the corners of your eyes. It will make them look defined, and bigger. Also, if you use eyeshadow, stay away from using just one color. That usually looks tacky. Always use at least 2 colors, and make sure you blend!!!!


Blue/green eyes look good with dark green on your lid, and orange in the crease of your eyelid. but blend them!





For glowing skin, get some of that lotion with just a hint of self tanner in it. And drink lots of water
EYES:


-a light neutral eye shadow on top, your favorite color eyeliner on the bottom, curl your eye lashes and mascara





HAIR:


-fish oil pills, condition every time, or you can wear braids for a while





BODY:


-eat less junk (so cliche but its true) take up running because running firms up all those places. but baby steps don't worry about getting abs right away, just work on the gut





SKIN:


-jergens natural glow lotion and a smile on your face will make your whole body glow!

1. How to cover up zits and scars.


Ok, well to actually get rid of scars you dab a small amount of olive oil on it, for a few minutes for about a week, and you'll see a difference, if you're wanting to cover it up quickly, just a nude shade concealer, this will also cover up your zits, but make sure to wash your face with a spot cream first.





2. If you have long hair, straighten it, and leave it down, or curl it and leave it down, leaving your hair down with long(sh) hair, makes you look more sexy and sophisticated. To protect it, same as before, massage olive oil onto your hair, then wash it out with shampoo, and you will have soft silky hair.





3. Any moisturizer is good, but make sure it doesn't have any oils in it apart from almond oil. Make up? hmm. Everyones skin is different so, if you're into the cakey type of look try using a shade darker then your actual jaw line, and dab on some powdered foundation too, but make sure to conceal before you do any of this, a little eyeliner and mascara, blush, either orange or pink, and a little lip gloss for the finishing touches.





4. I personally think using a make-up sponge is the best way to go, using your fingers makes your face dry up and peel. (personal experience, but now see a massive difference).

A really good moisturizer is the Clinque Gel one. Also the Clinque 3 step skin system is great.





If you want a more natural look, apply makeup with a finger.


If you want a more flawless finshed look apply makeup with brushes. Some inexpenisve but good quality ones are the Eco Tools 5 piece brush set. They are about 10 dollars for a blush, concealer, eyeliner, lash comb, eyebrow comb, and eye shadow brush. MAC brushes are great as well, but can be pricey.

Beauty pageant hair and makeup???

It's Miss Greek, at my college so it's not big, but i still want to win, and do well lol! I was wondering, what my make-up should look like because of the lights on stage, and should i have my hair down and curled on the ends and volumized, or in an up-do, My dress is a halter, but my hair is about 3-4in below shoulder length. Stage performance make up is similar to regular make up. The difference is when you are performing on stage you need your face to be seen. If you don't apply your make up right for a performance you will look pale/washed out and your face will blend into the light.





The first step to applying stage make up is to start with a clean moisturized face. Put foundation over you entire face and neck . A creme-based make up works well because it will cover everything and provide a skin color to your face. It also will not ';melt'; on stage.





After the foundation you should apply the blush. Using a cream or stick blush will give you long lasting color.





Eyebrows frame your eyes and give expression to the face. Grooming them and giving them definition can brighten your face for a cleaner and more beautiful look. A natural and soft eyebrow look can be achieved by applying brow colors with the help of a short brush with stiff bristles. Eyebrow pencils are sometimes overused and your eyebrows may appear artificial or painted on.





The eyes can be a little tricky. You want to accentuate the eyes with a darker line than usual. False eyelashes are a girl's dream - find some that will augment yours, rather than covering them up. Cutting them a bit too long at the outside could add a sultry, dramatic look. Using an eyelash curler, curl lashes and then apply two coats of black water-proof mascara. Use a cotton swab dipped in eye makeup remover to clean up any mistakes.





Last but not least are your lips. Use a little foundation or concealer on your lips before you apply the lipstick. Line your lips with a dark color and fill it in with matching lipstick.





Your make up needs to be exaggerated in order to show up under the bright lights. Even though it may look like a lot when you are doing it, you will look fabulous on stage. I strongly suggest you practice your make-up before the event.





Your hair should flatter your face. Do you look more elegant with your hair up? Or, if you are the more ';natural'; type, wear it down. Again, experiment with it while you are wearing the dress and jewelry. Either way, you should prepare your hair - both wet and dry. For the interview, a ';career'; look is best. A classic suit or dress is always good, with closed-toe moderate height pumps in a shade that visually connects to the darker colors of your clothing. If you have ';great'; legs, then your shoes can be a bit brighter. Your makeup and hair should be natural looking and tidy.

Try for ';subtle stage makeup';...enough that your features stand out but make sure you don't look like a clown. Eyeliner and false eyelashes (practice these before the big night!!) are so SO key! With blush, get your cheek bones, forehead, nose and chin. I like applying it like the number 3 and then a backwards 3 on the other side of the face. I hope that makes sense. And please, please blend your lines! No one likes distracting foundation lines.





Hair: I like the updo because it will show off your shoulders and back which is the point of the halter!





Personally, I think that a skirt-suit gives off a good, professional look for the interview.
Makeup- Stage lights will wash you out and make you look pale. Therefore your makeup should be heavy. Try an evening look. Smoky eyes should be your focal point and everything else should be pretty natural.





Hair- Wavy with different sized ringlets at the bottom. Very simple, but chic.





Clothes- for the interview wear a knee length cocktail dress.

i wish you the best of luck after you go through this pageant process, you become addicted. i have already started preparing. you can get an interview suit in sears(where i got mine) or go to ebay. What ever dress you choose not white. When it comes to dresses do a lot of searching on line. try looking under ball gowns or quincquiera or what ever it is called. those dresses are fluffy an puffy. (better) for talent thatis totall up to you!! hair in formal wear try either up in a bun curled and stuff or completely down curled at ends. ou could also do half up half down if you can't decide. interview best down and curled at ends. i hope this helps!!
i answered your other question firstand i would like to add that when you go for the interview you must keep your hair away from your face and don't play with it cause i learned that way cause playing with your hair is not so attractive and it shows you're nervous.

Allure, Glamor, they have magizines just deadicated to hair and finding the perfect style in big stores like walmart and target. I would just reley on magizines bescause they need diffrent things every momth so you wont get the spesific infomation you are looking for I recomend going to the library where you can check out old issues, but I think you would be better of getting a book on the subjet you want. I know that Allure and Glamor both publish books So you could get the tips you need and the magizine feel you want so you don't have to read lots of small counfusicg text. I just read Allure: Confestions of a beauty editor and thought it was good. Its on sale now at target:

Its called individuality. It may not be your thing to see girls with fake tans, dyed hair, and make-up... But sometimes it just works. I'm not going to so say its not a contest at school, because when I get ready in the morning I think, does this look terrible? Will people stare at me? I don't like it when people look at me.

i do agree with you that a lot of girls take those sorts of things too far but i don't think banning them will help anything. if anything, it will make them dress even more extreme outside of school! i had highlighted hair in high school, went tanning occasionally, and wore makeup and was a straight a student and am now a teacher. i agree that a lot of girls take these privileges too far and go very extreme with their dress and makeup, etc. but i think teenagers need to be able to express themselves. unfortunately some girls just take it too far and i think that is an issue for their parents and the students themselves to address!
This is the fault of the high chiefs in the school. When I was attending high school, it was important to wear the standard uniform, not some slutty kind of outfit.. Unfortunately, in this day and age, our knowlegeable friends have no power at all and have to put up with all sorts of insubordination. Their hands are now tied and they have no options in the ';punishment'; stakes.The current kiddies are wise to this fact and continue to push the ';lawmakers'; to their limits!!

I think you're taking this a little too far. Tans, short skirts, makeup...all of those things are ways of expressing a person's individuality. Do people overdo it sometimes, especially young girls? Sure they do. But why deprive the rest of us? And what's wrong with wearing a skirt above the knee? I look short and ugly when my school skirts go below my knees. They shouldn't be as short as mini skirts, but they don't have to be ridiculously long, either.

anything, but cosmo it tends to just spit out common sense(waste of money). Never read a seventeen though so sorry can't help you there.
I used to have cosmogirl and seventeen. Both are great. Don't know about the money saving part. I used to get coupons from seventeen though.
Save your money, and do what u think is right... along with all midia... magazines try to change who u r and what u should do to be ';accepted'; . please do not fall into this and do what is right for you!!! Good luck 2 u!

So i have found alot of beauty products that i love and work soo well. Now i want to know what other stuff other people like too. Tell me everything that you love.

well im pretty sure that goldish and bronze colors work very well...how about blues and greens....i have played around with make up a lot and you should try too...its not about matching sometimes though...sometimes contrast does the trick.Makeup, beauty products, hair ect...?
I've noticed that greys really bring out brown eyes, and of course greens too, the light ones or even lime. I'm also going to try the new bad girl mascara blue new at sephora it's sopposed to really bring out your eyes any color. Or go light on makeup and dazzle with some red lipglass.

Well of course we should all strive to be beautiful on the inside first, but if looking nice on the outside makes you feel more happy, then that's OK too. You should take care of your body for yourself, not anyone else.


I don't believe that skincare products damage the tissue, take sunscreen for example, it protects it.
Sunscreen does not protect skin, is causes skin cancer, read about all the chemicals in our cosmetics, stay away from products containing sodium lauryl sulfate.

if you have baby hair...take an old toothbrush and spray hairspray on it then take it and comb back your hair %26gt;%26gt;it works great!





perfume: it lasts longer if you spray it in your hair! :) (body spray too)





if you put too much lipstick or lipgloss take your finger and put it in your mouth. close your lips and gently pull it out. all the excess will come off and your lips will be perfect.





use blue eyeliner to make your eyes look whiter.

when you wear eyeliner, put it on both top and bottom. I would suggest blue - not cheesy blue, but not too dark either. A haristyle...ummm...definetley try a quiff - i think it wil look fab on you! also keep your hair neatly feathered and perhaps layered. You could add light brown highlights to your hair too - it will make it look absolutely gorgeous! P.S you look gorgeous in those pics anyway!Help with beauty advice???hair? makeup?

aah im such a party girl and i love primping.. so im sure i can rly help you here...





well lets start with the hair...


I use dove shampoo and herbal essences conditioner (condition every time you wash your hair) and then use a hair mask after washing your hair, leave it on for 10-30 min (only do the hair mask once a week).. and then either towel dry your hair, or dry it with the hairdryer on the cold setting... then (depending on your hair type) either flat iron it or get ur curling iron and make a few curls around to make that sexy simple wavy look..





now for the makeup... it seems good except for a couple things.. first off, you should consider wearing base instead of/before foundation, because if your going clubbing, chances are your gonna sweat, and base makes sure your makeup is all intact... second, for your eyes, i suggest you use liquid eyeliner for inside your eyes, cuz pencil eyeliner smudges and it gives u racoon eyes...also about the eyes, you should consider wearing eyeshadow, since you said u only use mascara and eyeliner... and as for lipgloss, you should use a lip stain instead since you'll get thirsty from all the dancing and your gonna be drinking (not neccesarily alchohol, but anything) and that will wash away your lip gloss, so lip stain will save you all those trips to the girls room to fix your lip gloss...





as for the outfit, if you want something slimming, obviously you should get something black or atleast in a dark shade,and short dresses (not ';skanky'; short) make your legs look longer... i think this dress is really good for partying, and i wear it alot when im out at a club:

oh and i know you didnt rly ask about shoes, but just as a tip, make sure to wear comfortable yet cute shoes... although honestly me n my friends usually end up dancing without our shoes and putting them under the table. LOL

I get like that all the time, i like to look different sometimes.





I would definately suggest getting something nice and bright, flourescent colours are in at the moment. I wear a slimming pants underneath dresses and stuff to pull my figure in(they take off a dress size easily) you can get them from primark for £5.





As for your hair, i always wear mine down and get bored of it so i often curl it with my straighteners which do a better job than any curlers i've owned.





Also try and match your make up with your outifit. For example i bought a flourescent orange top which i am wearing at the weekend with dark blue jeans, mint green shoes and a mint green bag. I have some orange eye liner and mint green mascara





Just adds a bit of funkiness and colour

Since i also have large brown eyes i wear a lot of mascara and do a smokey eye shadow. Um blush, a tiny bit and clear lip gloss or a nude color lip gloss. The cheapest make up is wet and wild, but I recommend NYC. It's around the same price as wet and wild and you can find it at Walmart.





With the hair.... go for the wet look. All you do is once you get out of the showder, dry your hair out a bit. A little bit only. Make sure your hair is still wet. -line ur eyes with white or light gold eyeliner to make ur eyes look brighter


-after u put on lipgloss or lipstick dab some very shimmery lip gloss in the center of ur bottom lip cus it will make them look fuller


- use a moisture hair mask once a week to keep ur hair hydrated


-use bronzer to warm up ur face


- whiten ur teeth with crest strips or something like that for a prettier smile:)


-put on anti frizz cream while ur hair is still soaking wet so it can absorb before ur hair starts to dry


- put a very little bit of vasaline on ur eyelashes before u go to bed cus it can make them grow thicker and longer


- before u get out of the shower rinse ur hair with very cold water to make it shinier


- put lemon juice in hair then sit in the sun for an hour then rinse it out. do that a few times and hair will get lighter and more highlighted


- braid ur hair when it is wet for wavy hair


- get great inexpensive clothes and jewelrey and forever 21

HAIR: Shampoo your hair every 2 days (every other day) because shampooing your hair everyday can cause itchiness, dandruff and strip away more hair. Have your hair trimmed about half an inch (or more) every 2 months for split ends.





MAKEUP!


~Eyes: For mascara, apply 2 coats for the upper lash and 1 for the lower lash.


~Lips: Apply lip balm before you apply lip gloss or lipstick for smoother looking lips.


~Brows: Brush your eyebrows with an eye brush before you apply brow liner.





CLOTHES!


~A red top and dark jeans always look nice if you know how to top it off.


~1 inch heels look nice in short-short, just make sure the shorts aren't too short!
hair: you could get highlights


get your hair to curl around your face


get a hair trim often





make up: try using eye liner around the bottom of your eye, black glittery eye liner is good for going out


put lipgloss on top of your lipstick

Well for your hair I would get it layered and get a side fringe or what I call a solid fringe, (you know the one that is just straight across) depending on your face shape, and to make your eyelashes look longer use one of the special mascara's, i recommend Lorel Telescopic (sorry if I spelt it wrong) and then use an eyelash curler. Oh and depending on your skin tone a nice blusher. I am quiet pale so I use a nice suttle pink but when I get a bit of a tan I use a bronzer on my cheek bones, hope I helped x
Hair: layers, bangs, or if you want drastic, get a pixie or bob

The way I learned to do make-up was to go to a large department store like Macy's and have the girl's at a make-up counter give you advice on colors and application. Pick a line of cosmetics that look appealing to you and ask the girls for help. They will show you all kinds of things and you might even get some free sample sizes. okay...





1. try using a white sparkly eye shadow on top of your cheeks, down your nose, on your cupid's bow and on to of your chin to create a youthful dewy glow.





2. always cleanse your face before you go to bed and before applying makeup. you always want to start with a clean palette.





3. when you apply foundation, try to get the color closest to your jaw line. when you apply always blend blend blend. do not match the color to the top of your hand, because most the time, it is a very different color.





4. when you apply your eyeshadows, always blend it together. just when you think you have blended enough, blend some more.


nothing is more polished and pretty then perfectly blended eye makeup.





5. you can make your own eye makeup remover by mixing equal parts of oil and water in a bottle and shaking it up. remove with cotton pad. don't forget to wash your face afterward.





6. always make sure your hands are sanitized before putting on makeup.





7. to make your nose look skinnier(one of marilyn monroes makeup tips) is to put bronzer on the sides of your nose, and highlight right down the top of your nose. apply a little bit of bronzer underneath your nose, to make it look more ';pixie-like';. (note: this looks is kind of extreme. a little bronzer goes a long way)





8. curl your eyelashes three times for 15 seconds each. once at the base, once mid and once at the tip. it gives it the perfect ';C'; shape.





9. If you wake up late, line your lower water line with a white eye pencil, it will make you look more awake, and sometimes your lash line can look pink, so it corrects that. (note: it can look really white when you first put it on, but blink a few times, and it will settle out.)





10. and lastly watch what goes into your body. you are what you eat. make sure you take a multi vitamin everyday, it will make you look and feel better.

Okay so it'd be nice if you told us your skin tone but I'm gonna ASSUME You're black because you said you had naturally black hair... And there's a black girl in your avatar.





So, for hair, I think you should go with with a copper. I was gonna say reddish but then remembered, if you are in fact black, that... that would just be a no-no. :X





Pastels always look the best on dark skin girls: like light blues, purples. Also it depends on your eye color which I'll assume is brown. Brighter colors look good because it kind of 'pops' on you. For make-up brands, well, Sephora has some really good ones. Not the cheapest if you don't like spending too much on Make-up but for me, I have way better results with some Sephora brands than make-up sold at pharmacies, though the L'oreal HIP Pigments aren't too bad.





Anyway, for clothes, that's pretty much it. You'll find at thrift shops there are a lot of clothes there for really, super duper cheap. And you can always alter clothes you find there to make it fit your style and personality even more, i.e, cutting them up.

You must start with skin care. Makeup cannot cover up acne that well without looking artificial. Eczema and dry skin must be managed.





If you are older, say over thirty-five, stay away from dry, powdery foundations. They work better on smoother, younger skin with more oil. take three different colors of eye shadow that are similar (shades of grey, shades of blue, etc...). put the medium colored one over the entire eyelid, put the light one in the inner corner and blend it into the medium one, then put the darkest on the outer corner and the crease...make sure to blend that too.

keep your skin clean, and keep your hands off your facee, the oils in your hands can make your face dirty and cause acne.. dont apply too much liquid make up or it will cake on and look badd... use conditioner nd dont straighten your hair everyday or it will be friedd. and DONT USE TOO MUCH EYELINERR.. alot of girls make that mistake and look like RACOONSS..!!! be carefull of the eyelinerr.. =]
